As our lives become busier and we try and fit more and more into each day it’s important to find ways to relax. Using the following simple hand massage techniques, based on hand reflexology, you should feel your breathing slow down and any anxiety dissolve during those stressful moments that you sometimes just can’t avoid.
Place the thumb of one hand onto the centre of the palm of the other hand. On this spot apply gentle circular motions – work in one direction and then the other. Next, gradually apply pressure to the palm whilst breathing in and counting slowly to five, decrease the pressure again counting to five. Repeat this several times on both hands.
In hand reflexology the sides of the fingers correspond with the neck. If you feel tension in your neck gently massage the sides of each finger and thumb on both hands. Using a small amount of hand cream or oil will make this easier.
Busy lives and stress can often lead to headaches. In hand reflexology the end of the fingers and thumb corresponds with the head. Gently massage and squeeze the tip of each finger and thumb in turn. You may find one area is slightly more tender so work this area a little longer but be gentle! Again, work both hands.
