When I first studied reflexology 18 years ago we were taught to use talc. Over the years this was discouraged and carrier oils were recommended. More recently I’ve been hearing about beeswax products. I’ve tried a few but have been put off by the odour so was pleased to recently come across ‘Annie’s Bee Natural Massage Wax’ on Twitter (@anniemassagewax). She produces several products but I was particularly interested in the aroma-free wax.
Annie sent me a small sample and I couldn’t wait to open the lid and smell it 🙂 There was the faintest, faintest smell which was natural and not at all overpowering. I started to get excited. I had a friend lined up for a reflexology treatment and couldn’t wait to get to work.
Annie had told me to use the product sparingly as a little goes a long way. I rubbed a little between my hands and began the treatment. Wow! is my technical appraisal. It gave me a firm grip without slipping and I felt I was able to give a deeper treatment. My friend loved the feel of the wax and her feet felt well hydrated, conditioned and there was very little product left to wipe from her feet. I loved the semi-solid nature of the wax as it would mean no more spillages. Added bonuses are the natural properties of pure beeswax (anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-bacterial).
Further reading of Annie’s website (www.anniesmassagewax.com) gave good news as her products are handmade to order with 100% natural ingredients., no parabens or colouring and not tested on animals I have found a product I am looking forward to working with.
I will be phasing massage wax into my reflexology treatments over the coming weeks so let me know what you think.
