Avocado Oil

Previous carrier oil summaries: Sunflower Oil

Avocado Oil (Persea americana)

Avocado Oil is rich and nourishing. It is a thick oil with a strong aroma and can leave the skin feeling waxy so it is usually blended with another carrier oil (no more than 30% avocado oil).  A good quality, cold-pressed, unrefined oil should have a green tinge. If it has a pale yellow colour it is refined and the properties of the oil won’t be as good. The oil is obtained from the pulp of the fruit.

Benefits of Avocado Carrier Oil

  • Good for dry, ageing or dehydrated skins as easily absorbed
  • Good for eczema and psoriasis
  • Rich and nourishing properties make it good for restoring and rejuvenating the skin
  • Thought to help with stretch marks
  • Thought to help stimulate hair growth and improve hair condition

Properties of Avocado Oil

  • Rich in essential fatty acids and Vitamin A, D and E
  • High sterol content makes it good in blends for arthritic pain
  • Shelf life 12 months (depending on quality)

Refrigeration can break down fragile components within avocado oil making it less effective.

Be aware that avocado oil can cause staining to clothes due to it’s green colouring.
