With a firm background in holistic treatments how did I find myself spending my morning off trying out layering combinations of CND shellac?
My interest in nails began as a newly qualified reflexologist when elderly clients asked for help cutting their toe nails. At that time, I didn’t have the necessary qualifications to have insurance to cut nails so I enrolled on a pedicure course and found I quite liked making feet more comfortable and nails prettier.
The leap to shellac happened quite by accident after reading posts on Salon Geek by members raving about this new product. It appealed to me as nails didn’t have to be buffed as they do with other gel systems and the polish could last for 14 days. I went on a course and fell in love!
So that is how I found myself trialing colours on to colour pops on my day off – so much easier to then show clients the variety available. Add a few glitters and additives, burnish and you have an instant new colour. Then this afternoon it’s a full clinic of reflexology and massage.
I often find other therapists look down at those who go down the beauty route as well as holistic treatments. In my opinion, as long as a therapist keeps up to date with the treatments they offer and enjoys what they’re doing then I see no problem with mixing the two. Mind you, at the end of a shellac treatment you’ll usually find yourself having a hand massage – I can’t quite help myself and what better way to finish off a treatment.
And my favourite combination this morning – Limeade layered over Pretty Poison!
